Gibson Governance was established by Sally Gibson and is focused on clients that desire practical and effective outcomes, specifically designed for them. Sally is a former equity partner of Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, a premier global law firm headquartered in New York. Following her return to Australia from London at the beginning of 2018 and in addition to her legal consultancy work, Sally became a non-executive director of a Northern Rivers based not-for-profit and a credit union.
While our clients are city-based organisations (located in Australia and overseas), Gibson Governance is based in Grafton, New South Wales. Sally is committed to supporting the growth of the Northern Rivers and, where feasible, engages local services providers.
Sally was a partner in the Investment Management Group of Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, a premier law firm headquartered in New York. Debevoise has a market-leading investment management and fund formation practice.
Sally’s practice at Debevoise focused on advising sponsors of private investment funds, including buyout, real estate, infrastructure, venture capital, energy, mezzanine and secondaries funds. Sally also advised on the restructuring of English investment managers and investment advisers and the acquisition of fund management groups.
Sally headed the European investment management regulatory team, working with all the firm’s private fund clients to navigate the regulatory issues affecting the private equity and fund management sectors.
In Chambers UK (2018) she was recommended as an ‘up and coming’ lawyer for Investment Funds: Private Equity and she was additionally noted for her regulatory practice. She was also recommended for investment fund work by IFLR 1000 and The Legal 500 UK (2016 and 2017), and was named by various media outlets as amongst the top funds lawyers in the world. These include being named a “2015 Rising Star” by Law360, being named as one of Private Funds Management’s “30 Under 40”, being included in The Lawyer’s annual “Hot 100” list, being named as one of Financial News’ “40 Under 40”, and being named by Who’s Who Legal to a select group of 22 global “Thought Leaders” for private funds.
Sally received a Master of Law (first class honours) from the University of Cambridge in 2004 and a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Laws (first class honours) from the University of Sydney in 2001.
